My Theoretical Approach
I believe that therapy is not a “one size fits all” process but rather an experience that is highly individualized with a focus on the whole person. While I approach my work holistically, I integrate a variety of treatment modalities that inspire change, self-acceptance, healing and empowerment.
The core theoretical elements I utilize in my practices are sourced from Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Interpersonal Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness, and Humanistic Psychology.
Generally speaking, below are basic definitions of the above theoretical approaches.
· Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) – An evidenced-based approach in which negative patterns of thought about oneself and the world are challenged in order to alter unwanted behavior patterns and difficult feelings.
· Internalized Family Systems (IFS) - An integrative model that focuses on healing wounded parts and restoring harmony and mental balance by altering the dynamics that create conflict among multiple sub-personalities and the Self.
· Interpersonal Therapy - A focus on improving personal relationships that are causing psychological distress.
· Psychodynamic Therapy - An emphasis on the value of conscious & unconscious forces in guiding behavior, personality conflicts and the lasting effects of childhood experiences.
· Motivational Interviewing – A goal-oriented method to facilitate and engage intrinsic motivation to promote behavior change and resolve feelings of ambivalence.
· Mindfulness – A conscious decision to pay attention on purpose and without judgment to promote acceptance of the present moment.
· Humanistic Psychology – A positive approach that meets the individual where they're at and focuses on growth and personal strengths rather than on pathology.
